Cullercoats v Forest Hall

League Leaders Forest Hall ended Cullercoats unbeaten start to the season in fortunate circumstances at the Amberley Playing fields

With a 3-2-1 formation in operation it was Cullercoats who started the better and took the lead midway through the first half when skipper Oliver Young picked out a pass to Steven Taylor who made a superb overlapping run from Right back to fire Cullercoats into the lead.

Cullercoats were denied a 2nd just before half time when the referee disallowed a Luke Monaghan goal.  Monaghan simply used his body strength to outmuscle to Forest hall defender and round the keeper for what would have been goal no 15 of the season.  The young referee was the only person to see a fowl and ruled it out and this clearly had an effect on Cullercoats for the rest of the first half.

Only some heroic defending from David Shipley kept Forest Hall at bay following a succession of corner Kicks, Shipley was on the end of almost every dangerous ball to head clear.

Gaps started to appear in the Cullercoats defence in the 2nd half when Shipley was withdrawn for his rest period and Forest Hall inevitably equalised when a tame cross found its way to an unmarked forward who sneaked the ball past Tony Blacklock

Josh Irwin almost scored his first goal for the side when his long range effort was almost dropped into the net by the Forest Hall keeper. A good spell of football from Cullercoats midfielders Charlie Barbrook and Oliver Young resulted in a penalty being awarded when a Forest Hall defender deliberatley handled a goalbound efffort.  However Skipper Young blazed the spotkick high over the bar and again cullercoats confidence took a dent resulting in more pressure from Forest Hall.

The Reds stole the points late in the match with another good finish late on. After the referee failed to spot a clear fowl on Shipley the ball fell kindly to a reds striker who made no mistake.

Cullercoats can think themselves unfortunate not to get anything out of the game but must learn not to dwell on their misfortunes in future matches.

MOM: David Shipley
