Cullercoats 3 Forest Hall Blues 1
Cullercoats under 10s maintained their unbeaten start to the league season with a hard fought win over Forest Hall Blues
In perfect footballing conditions with no wind and soft ground Cullercoats looked sluggish early on and perhaps suffered from having no match last weekend. Cullercoats just shaded the early exchanges but couldnt make their possession count in midfield and struggled to keep the ball under control at times. Charlie James looked most likely to cause danger in the forest hall defence early on but it was his replacement Luke Monaghan who opened the scoring midway through the first half with a fine finish that took a slight deflection to deceive the blues keeper.
With a tendency to sit too deep the cullercoats defence invited pressure from the blues but managed to hold onto their lead thanks to some fine defending from David Shipley and sound handling from Keeper Tony Blacklock.
With the blues dominating the opening exhanges of the second half a change in formation was forced upon Cullercoats who found it neccessary to replace a striker (Charlie James) with a midfielder Charlie Barbrook. This tactic paid dividends when Barbrook fired in his first goal of the season following some excellent play down the left flank to put the seasiders in control at 2-0 up.
Charlie James then replaced Luke Monaghan up front and shortly afterwards scored the goal of the match to kill off the blues. Collecting a fine pass from Lewis Williamson, James cut inside from the byeline and somehow managed to find the top corner of the net from a seemingly impossible angle.
David Shipley almost added to the tally but his fine long range effort struck the outside of the post before the Blues scored a late consolation with the last kick of the game as their centre forward outpaced the previously faultless Cullercoats Skipper Oliver Young.
Having played a game less than their main rivals cullercoats find themselves in 6th Position in the table having won two and drawn two of their four league fixtures to date.
