U8s - Match Report (10/10/09 - Longbenton Juniors)

The U8s returned to winning ways this weekend against Longbenton Juniors, after suffering their first defeat of the season last week against the host club, KYPC.

As usual Cullercoats came flying out of the blocks and had all the early pressure, which resulted in a goal after 5 mins, scored by Matty Sharp (central midfield), after excellent approach play down the left by Benjamin Sharp (midfield).

Longbenton played their way back into the game, which was even during the rest of the first half. Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris (defence) played well infront of the ever reliable Daniel Henderson (keeper), whose handling was very good.

The equaliser came towards the end of the first half with an excellent finish by Longbenton, despite strong defending through the middle by the midfield trio, including Ethan Ayre, who was full of running throughout. Connor Sherriff (striker) worked tirelessly up front, with several strong surges towards goal.

In the second half, Fin Peach (midfield) replaced Ethan Ayre for his first game for Cullercoats. He slotted into the right side and played well throughout the second half.

Longbenton took control of midfield in the latter stages and created several chances from corner kicks, which were well defended by Cullercoats. Daniel Brewis also made his debut, replacing Ryan Norris in defence. He made several excellent clearances alonside Jack Stronach and Daniel Henderson also made a couple of fine saves to keep his team in the game.

Cullercoats broke free down the left with Benjamin Hall, with the last attack of the game and he found Connor Sherriff with an excellent pass. Connor broke clear on the left side of the opposition box and struck an excellent low drive into the left hand corner of the goal, which evaded the keeper's outstretched dive to win the match.

The result was cruel on Longbenton, but meant that Cullercoats returned to winning ways, with their third victory in four matches.

Benjamin Hall was awarded 'man of the match' by the coaches for his excellent running and passing throughout the game, including setting up the winning goal.
