U8s - Match Report (24/10/09 Forest Hall)

Cullercoats faced their stiffest test so far in the KYPC 'friendly' Under 8s League against the undefeated Forest Hall, who defeated the hosts, KYPC Galaxy last weekend, to maintain their 100% record.

The first half was played at a quick tempo by two evenly matched sides, with Forest Hall having the advantage of a fairly strong wind.

Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris (defence) provided a solid back line in front of the in-form Daniel Henderson (keeper), who was excellent throughout the first half.

Matty Sharp (central midfield) bossed the midfield battle through the central areas, assisted by Benjamin Hall and Finan Peach (midfield), whilst Connor Sherriff (striker and captain for the day) ran the line up front to excellent effect.

Forest Hall took the lead mid way through the half, scoring direct from a left wing corner, which was wind-assisted.

The game opened up in the second half, with Cullercoats making a strong start. Matty Sharp continued to dominate the midfield battle and Connor Sherriff caused all sorts of problems for the Forest Hall defence with his pace and strength.

Cullercoats forced the play and equalised from a left wing throw-in by Benjamin Hall, which evaded the defence in the area and, with pressure from Connor Sherriff, was forced in from close range.

The game then became very open, with Ethan Ayre (midfield) replacing Finan Peach on the right. Connor Sherriff continued to cause havoc for the Forest Hall defence and Matty Sharp continued to control the midfield battle with Benjamin Hall.

Matty Sharp hit the post with a shot from the left side of the box and minutes later Benjamin Hall almost went clear with a strong run into the box, which resulted in his shot being blocked.

Forest Hall also created a couple of good chances in the final minutes, but they were denied by Daniel Henderson, who was immaculate throughout the second half. He was also assisted by Jack Stronach, Ryan Norris and Matty Sharp, who all made good clearances to protect their goal area.

The match ended 1-1, with Cullercoats being the first team to take points off Forest Hall this season. The game was played in very good spirit throughout and both teams were congratulted by the coaches.

Finan Peach and Ethan Ayre were jointly awarded 'man of the match' for their disciplined performances on the right side of midfield.
