The U8s played their third competitive 'friendly' league game at KYPC against the host team, KYPC Galaxy, who provided the strongest challenge to date.
The game was very competitive from the start, with KYPC very strong in the challenge and full of running. Cullercoats held their own in a very even first half, which ended 0-0. Daniel Henderson (keeper) was in excellent form, with Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris (defence) also providing excellent cover at the back.
In the second half the game opened up and Benjamin Hall (midfield) pushed forward at every opportunity to support Connor Sherriff (striker). Matty Sharp (central midfield) fought hard to control the midfield battles and Ethan Ayre (midfield) was also full of running and energy throughout. Bayley Whenray (substitute midfielder) came off the bench for Ethan Ayre and also played his part in a fiercely competitive second half.
KYPC scored the opening goal midway through the second half on the break and added a second in similar circumstances, as Cullercoats pressed for what would have been a well deserved equaliser. However, despite going close on several occasions through Benjamin Hall and Matty Sharp, Cullercoats could not convert their chances and the game ended 2-0.
Daniel Henderson was awarded 'man of the match' by the coaches for another solid performance in goal. However, the whole team played well throughout and the coaches and parents / family were very proud of them.
Special Note - In the opening game (19/9/09 - Burradon U8s) we reported that the third goal was scored by Connor Sherriff, when infact it was converted by Benjamin Hall. Apologies to both players.
