10s - Match report (28/11/09 Pontelend United Barca)

Cullercoats 3 - Ponteland United Barca 2

Cullercoats fought back to edge an entertaining encounter at the Amberley Playing fields.

Cullercoats dominated the early play and almost struck first but a fantastic save by the Ponteland Keeper kept out a Charlie Barbrook volley.  Cullercoats fell behind after 10 mins when they conceded a needless freekick on the edge of the box and were once again punished by a well taken set peice that eluded goalkeeper Tony Blacklock.

Cullercoats hit back on the stroke of half time when Charlie James was tripped in the box and Aaron Dixons calmly taken penalty took the teams in level at half time.

A fantastic strike by Steven Taylor early in the second half flew into the top corner to give Cullercoats the lead before charlie james poached a third minutes later when he was the first to react to a loose ball in the penalty area.

Ponteland struck a late goal with 3 minutes on the clock to set Cullercoats on edge but they managed to hold on for a well deserved win.

U9s - Match Report (21/11/09 Seaton Burn)

Cullercoats dominated the first half and took a deserved two goal lead in to the half time interval with both goals coming from the star centre forward Will Smith. After the interval Seaton Burn pulled a goal back before Cullercoats took control again and scored a third then a forth with Will Smith completing his hat trick and Liam O'Neil with a smart lob from outside the area.

Seaton Burn made the last few minutes uncomfortable with late goals but Cullercoats held on for the deserved and hard fought for three points.

Final Score 4-3, goal scorers Will Smith 3, Liam O'neil

U8s - Match Report (07/11/09 Burradon U8s)

The U8s started their second round of matches against Burradon U8s, who they beat 3-0 in their first match in September. They made a slow start and Burradon made the early play, creating some good chances in the first 10 mins.

Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris (defence) were called on to make some important challenges in a difficult first half. Daniel Henderson (keeper) was also called into action on several occasions, making good saves and providing safe hands at the back.

Burradon took the lead with an excellent strike into the top right hand corner of the net and this sparked Cullercoats into action, with Matty Sharp (central midfield (captain)) making several strong challenges and runs into the opposing half.

Benjamin Hall and Fin Peach (midfield) also played their part in taking control of the central area of the pitch and Connor Sherriff (striker) made several strong runs and sent in some long range shots to test the Burradon keeper. Benjamin Hall also went close with a close range effort from the right side of the box, which whistled past the left hand post.

At half time Cullercoats re-organised and forced the play after the break. They created numerous chances from open play and corners in the second half. Matty Sharp, Benjamin Hall and Connor Sherriff all went close with shots, which also struck the post and cross bar.

Daniel Brewis (defence) and Ethan Ayre (midfield) came on as second half substitutes and played their part in a much improved second half performance.

Despite having all the play, Cullercoats could not find a way through and even an excellent shot from distance by Jack Stronach past inches wide of the top right hand angle of the goal.

Matty Sharp also had a penalty saved in the second half, in a match which ended 1-0 to Burradon. It was hard luck on Cullercoats who completely dominated the play in the second half.

On this occasion the team learned important lessons about the need to retain and pass the ball to create space and opportunities, which is all part of the process in developing as footballers and a team !!

U9s - Match Report (31/10/09 KYPC Rockets)

KYPC Rockets dominated the first half and took a 3-0 lead into the half time interval which was deserved. The second half was a different story, and Cullercoats found their momentum and bossed the second half. They got there reward for their pressure mid way through the second half, with a goal via an OG. They continued the pressure but were unable to add to the score line due to good defensive play from KYPC Rockets.

U8s - Match Report (KYPC 14/11/09 and Longbenton 21/11/09)

Cullercoats U8s played their eagerly awaited re-match against hosts, KYPC, last weekend in another fiercely contested match. The first half was very even and both sides cancelled each other out in midfield, where Matty Sharp, Benjamin Hall and Finan Peach all played well.

At the back Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris (defence) and Dan Henderson (keeper) were all very solid.

Connor Sherriff provided the outlet up front and made several excellent runs, testing the home keeper on two occasions, as KYPC were put on the back foot.

The second half started in the same way, with both teams fully committed in the tackle. KYPC took the initiative when their striker broke free on the edge of the box and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. Dan Henderson got an excellent hand to the shot, but the power took the ball over the line. Dan's brave keeping resulted in him receiving a hand injury, but he continued in support of his team.

Daniel Brewis (defence) and Ethan Ayre (midfield) came on to provide good support to the team. Both also made excellent clearances when KYPC attacked on the break.

Cullercoats took control of the remainder of the second half and created a string of chances. Jack Stronach was in excellent form at the back and also made a number of surging runs in support of the attack. He was fouled on several occasions, but picked himself up to create further problems for the hosts.

Cullercoats were awarded a late second half penalty for a foul in the box and Matty Sharp's excellent penalty into the right side of the goal was palmed away by an equally excellent save by the keeper. The game finished 1-0, which was extremely harsh on a Cullercoats team who were dominant throughout the second half; a view shared by both managers.

Jack Stronach was awarded #man of the match' for his excellent display at the back, coupled with great work and commitment going forward, despite some very questionable fouls by the hosts.

This was a first class display by the whole team.

Longbenton - 21/11/09

The U8s were in action against a strong Longbenton side at the weekend in the KYPC 'Friendly' League.

The first half was dominated by Cullercoats who created a number of good opportunities through Benjamin Hall, Matty Sharp (midfield) and Connor Sherriff (striker). However, they fell behind inside the first 10 mins. when a throw in caught the defence and keeper flat-footed.

Cullercoats responded well to the setback, with Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris (defence) pushing Longbenton back into their own half for long periods, as Cullercoats took control of the game. Dan Henderson (keeper) also played his part in keeping things tight at the back.

Ethan Ayre (midfield) provided support in attack and was full of running on the right and Benjamin Hall caused all sorts of problems for the opposition with several strong runs through midfield.

The first half ended with Cullercoats somehow 1-0 behind and the team were given a half time lift by the coaches.

The second half was dominated for long periods by Cullercoats, with Matty Sharp and Connor Sherriff going very close with excellent efforts, which were saved by an in-form Longbenton keeper. Finan Peach replaced Ethan Ayre in midfield and provided a good outlet on the right, whilst Daniel Brewis came on during the half in defence to marshall the Longbenton striker.

Benjamin Hall made the break-through midway through the half with an excellent right foot shot into the top right corner of the net from wide on the left side of the box.

This triggered a sustained period of pressure by Cullercoats, as they went looking for the winning goal. Despite some great runs and shots, the opposing keeper kept them out with some fine saves and parries. The game, which was played in very good spirit throughout, ended 1-1.

Benjamin Hall was awarded 'man of the match' for an excellent performance throughout the game. His best display for Cullercoats to date.

U10s - Match Report (21/11/09 New Fordley)

Cullercoats 2 - 2 New Fordley

Cullercoats dominated the opening period but after a succession of missed chances they only had a David Shipley goal to show for their efforts.  Centre Back shipley notched his 4th Goal of the season as he yet again managed to score direct from a corner just before the interval.

New fordley came out the stronger side in the second half and caused problems for the Cullercoats defence.  The equaliser came early in the second period when the referees controversialy judged that Lewis Williamson had fouled the Fordley Striker.   Cullercoats failed to set up a wall for the resulting free kick which looked far to far away from goal to cause any danger, however the Fordley centre half cracked in an almost unbeleivable strike from Distance to give Tony Blacklock no chance.

Luke Monaghan soon restored Cullercoats advantage when he kept his cool when through on goal to notch his 15th Goal of the season.  However it was New Fordley who had the final say in matters when Cullercoats failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to a striker who clipped the ball high into the net.

Overall a fair result but Cullercoats can again think themselves unfortunate not to snatch victory.

U10s - Match Report (07/11/09 KYPC Jaguars)

Cullercoats 5  Kypc Jaguars 0

The under 10s returned to winning ways in empatic stlye following two previous disappointing defeats.

Charlie James returned to the squad and it didnt take him long to open his account when he raced clear of a static KYPC defence to slot in the opener.  Aaron Dixon added a second to give cullercoats a half time 2-0 lead when his corner kick was fumbled into the net by the unfortunate Jaguars keeper.

Some great midfield play from Dixon set up James again to race clear early in the second half and when the KYPC keeper made a brave save at his feet the ball broke for Holly Summers to scramble home her first goal of the season for 3-0.

David Shipley added the fourth with a fine left footed turn and finish from the edge of the post that literally broke the netting before Charlie James nabbed his second of the game after a throughball from Josh Irwin to round of a fine days work for Cullercoats.

U8s - Match Report (31/10/09 Tynemouth Yellows)

The game kicked off in brilliant sunshine before a large and expectant crowd. Cullercoats started very slowly and Tynemouth were much the better side in the opening exchanges and rightfully went a goal ahead when a break down their left wing saw them take the lead with a low powerful shot from inside the box.

Slowly Cullercoats came back into the game and they were grateful for some good defending from Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris, coupled with some fine goalkeeping from their ever reliable goalkeeper, Daniel Henderson.

Chances were appearing at both ends with the game being an open attacking game of football and the midfield trio of Ethan Ayre (captain), Matty Sharp and Benjamin Hall working tirelessly against a good Tynemouth team. Connor Sherriff looked a threat throughout and came close on a couple of occasions with long range efforts that flew narrowly wide.

Benjamin Hall also had a good effort which struck the woodwork with their goalkeeper beaten. A change before the interval saw Daniel Brewis come on for Ryan Norris in defence but the first half came to an end with Tynemouth still leading by the solitary goal.

A much livelier Cullercoats team came out for the second half and they continued to press for an equaliser with Connor Sherriff again going close on a couple of occasions. Ryan Norris replaced the hard working captain, Ethan Ayre, as Cullercoats searched for the equaliser. Daniel Henderson again pulled off a fine save to keep his team in the game.

With only 5 minutes remaining Cullercoats still trailed and a tactical change saw Daniel Brewis and Ryan Norris keeping things tight at the back, allowing Jack Stronach to surge forward. Cullercoats kept pressing their opponents with Matty Sharp and Connor Sherriff both looking a threat.

With only 2 minutes remaining Cullercoats got their rewards when a right wing attack saw Connor Sherriff go past 2 defenders before passing to Matty Sharp who drilled the ball home into the bottom corner.A thoroughly entertaining game between two evenly matched sides finished level. A very good second half performance earning a 1-1 draw after a lack- lustre start.

Matty Sharp was awarded 'man of the match', but there were also strong second half performances from Benjamin Hall and Connor Sherriff.

U10s - Match Report (31/10/09 KYPC Ajax)

Cullercoats 0 - KYPC Ajax 5

Cullercoats were scared into submission against High Fliers KYPC Ajax on Halloween.   As in their earlier Cup encounter Cullercoats could not handle the pace of the KYPC midfield and some fine wing play and finishing from the Ajax Side ultimatley proved the difference.

Luke Monaghan could have put the seasiders into an early lead when he was sent racing clear with only the keeper to beat, however Cullercoats main striker seemed have to much time on his hands to think about his finish and ultimatley his shot was easily saved by the impressive Ajax Keeper.

Ajax didnt look back from this point and took the lead when a right wing cross wasnt dealt with in the cullercoats defence and was turned in by the left winger who reacted before Steven Taylor to fire home past stand in Cullercoats Keeper Oliver Young.

Cullercoats heads began to drop and they conceded a further two goals before half time by giving the ball away too cheaply in midfield and failing to close down the Ajax Strikers.

Cullercoats couldnt be faulted for effort in the 2nd Half and Luke Monaghan (twice) and Josh Irwin almost managed to pull goals back but were denied by the Ajax keeper again.

KYPC scored another two fine goals midway through the 2nd half to kill off Cullercoats chances.

Ulitmatley Cullercoats were beaten by a better team on the day but they need to have more self belief if they are to rise to challenges such as this in future
