8s - Match Report (12/12/09 Forest Hall Blues)

The U8s were back in action on Saturday 12/12/09 against the top team, Forest Hall Blues, having earned an excellent draw against them earlier in the season.

The first half was very competitive, with both teams fighting for control of midfield, where Matty Sharp (captain), Benjamin Hall and Ethan Ayre played their part in competing for the upper hand. Matty Sharp was particularly strong throughout the first half, winning most balls in the air.

In defence, Jack Stronach and Ryan Norris were in good form, preventing any clear cut opportunities for the opposition.

Connor Sherriff (striker) ran the front line with lots of pace and tackling, as Cullercoats sought to unsettle the Forst Hall defence. Several players had chances to open the scoring for Cullercoats, but were unable to convert them.

The leaders were first to strike after a lack of concentration by Cullercoats from a thrown-in on the right, which evaded two defenders and deflected of the unfortunate Ethan Ayre past Daniel Henderson (keeper). The first half ended 1-0.

In the second half Forest Hall took the upper-hand with some good passing and positional play. This resulted in an eight minute spell, where they scored three quick goals, as  Cullercoats failed to defend their line.

Benjamin Hall pulled back a goal in the last ten minutes with a strong run and finish inside the box. This led to a period of sustained pressure by Cullercoats for the remainder of the match, which ended 4-1 to Forest Hall.

Ryan Norris was awarded 'man of the match' for his consistent display at the back, where he held his position and made a number of good clearances.

The team have one remaining fixture before the Christmas break (weather permitting), against Wallsend Community.
