The Under 8s were in action last weekend against neighbours, Tynemouth United FC, in the KYPC ‘Friendly’ League. They were looking to bounce straight back from a 2-0 defeat against hosts, KPYC the week before.
The Under 8s started the game strongly, taking control of the midfield battle in the early stages. Connor Sherriff (captain), Harvey Thompson and Joseph Hornby all worked hard through the central areas, with Jack Reid (striker) terrorising the Tynemouth keeper and defence. Joseph Hornby was particularly impressive, making numerous tackles and challenges to win the ball.
Jack Reid opened the scoring and added a second to give the Under 8s a 2-0 lead in the first half. However, Tynemouth struck back with a well taken free kick, which Daniel Brewis (keeper) got his hands to, but could not divert over the crossbar. Ryan Norris and Leighton Alexander (defence) worked hard to keep the opposition out.
The game turned on its head in the second half, with Tynemouth taking control. The Under 8s passing game disappeared in their worst half of football this season. Jack Tatum (midfield) and Dylon Hedley (keeper) were both introduced in the second half and played their part in stemming the flow at the back.
The match ended 5-2 to Tynemouth, despite the Under 8s creating a hatful of chances and having control of the match in the first half.
Joseph Hornby was awarded ‘man of the match’ for his superb tacking display; particularly in the first half.
