Cullercoats FC Under 8s - Match Report (5/3/11 v Whitley Bay Boys Club Rovers)

The Under 8s returned to ‘friendly’ league action in February 2011, after a lengthy lay off due to snow covered and then waterlogged pitches at KYPC. They enjoyed back to back wins against Forest Hall Reds (5-0) and Tynemouth United (5-0), before taking on Whitley Bay BC Rovers on Saturday (5/3/11).

The Under 8s started slowly with some sloppy passes in the first 10 mins, before their game kicked into life with two excellent first half goals by Elliot Anderson (central midfield). Connor Sherriff (right midfield / striker and captain) also went close with a terrific shot which struck the post, whilst Jack Reid (striker) also had a close range chance to stretch the lead.

Ryan Norris and Joseph Hornby (defence) were strong at the back, whilst Daniel Brewis (keeper) had little to do in the first half. Harvey Thompson and Jack Tatum (midfield) also played their part in securing the first half advantage.

In the second half the team took control of the central areas and increased their lead through Jack Tatum who hit an excellent shot into the top corner after a strong run down the right. He then added his second, a stunning strike, to seal the match, before a further strike by Elliot Anderson made it 5-0 with his hat-trick.

Whitley Bay scored a consolation goal after the ball broke free inside the box, before Connor Sherriff rapped things up with a good finish inside the box to make it 6-1.

Jack Tatum was awarded ‘man of the match’ by the coaches for his excellent runs and strikes. However, it was a real squad performance which provided the third straight win for the team, which takes them joint fourth with Forest Hall Blues, just one point behind Tynemouth United.
