The Under 8s continued their impressive post-Christmas run on Saturday 26th March 2011, against local neighbours Tynemouth United at KYPC in the ‘friendly’ league.
The game got off to a flying start with Connor Sherriff (striker, capt.) giving them an early lead with a quality finish, after excellent work through midfield from Harvey Thompson, Elliot Anderson and Jack Tatum, who all played their part in taking control of the central areas.
At the back Daniel Brewis (keeper), Leighton Alexander and Ryan Norris (defence) all made excellent to keep a lively Tynemouth side at bay.
Connor Sherriff was in unstoppable form in front of goal and quickly added a second, before Harvey Thompson turned in the third at the far post after great work in the middle by Elliot Anderson. At that stage the Under 8s were in complete control. However, Tynemouth continued to press forward whenever they retrieved possession and made a good competitive game of it.
However, in his best half of football in a Cullercoats shirt, Connor Sherriff continued to cause mayhem in the Tynemouth half and added three further first half goals. The third was a spectacular overhead kick from the edge of the box and he also hit crossbar and post before the half time whistle. Elliot Anderson set up several goals and also got onto the score sheet himself in a half which ended 7-1.
The Tynemouth goal was also a superb strike from a free kick on the right which was struck with pace into the top of the net.
Evan Howard and Joseph Hornby (midfield) also came on as first half substitutes, together with Jack Reid (defence) and all three played their part in an excellent team performance.
The second half was well fought by both teams and Leighton Alexander (moving into midfield) added the eighth goal with an excellent turn and first time shot, before Tynemouth scored a consolation goal towards the end making a final score of 8-2.
Jack Reid was excellent throughout at the back and was awarded ‘man of the match’ for his performance in the second half when he made a number of great challenges and clearances to protect his own box area.
The whole squad were congratulated for a superb performance, the first half of which was quite spectacular for their age.
P.S. Training returns to Links Avenue, Cullercoats on Thursday 31st March 2011, starting at 6pm as usual. The sessions will continue to finish at approx. 7pm. Please note that we have three weekday fixtures on Monday evenings in April / May. Further details will follow, but you can access information on the KYPC website.
