The Under 8s maintained their 100% winning record in 2011 in the KYPC ‘friendly’ league on Saturday afternoon, with another impressive and powerful display against Longbenton Under 8s at Killingworth.
Connor Sherriff (striker, capt.) opened the scoring after a bright start. The midfield trio of Harvey Thompson, Elliot Anderson and Jack Tatum took control of the central areas, with Elliot Anderson causing havoc through the middle of the Longbenton defence. All three midfielders got onto the score sheet with excellent finishes as the Under 8s stormed into a 4-0 lead.
Ryan Norris and Jack Reid (defenders) were strong at the back and prevented any meaningful chances, whilst Leighton Alexander (defender) stepped in as emergency keeper in the first half, due to Daniel Brewis (keeper) feeling under the weather.
Joseph Hornby and Evan Howard (midfield) came on to bolster midfield, with Evan making his debut match for the team. Both made immediate impacts and Jack Tatum stretched the first half lead with another well taken goal to make it 5-0 at half time.
Daniel Brewis went in goal in the second half, despite being unwell; such is his commitment and dedication to the team.
The second half continued in similar fashion, with the Under 8s making most of the running. However, Longbenton dug in and defended well, with some excellent saves from a first class keeper.
However, Elliot Anderson returned to central midfield and added his second goal of the match to make it 6-0 at the end.
The team played some excellent football in a an all-round team performance. Elliot Anderson was awarded ‘man of the match’ for his superb display in central midfield where he linked play and chipped in with two super goals.
This was the fourth win in a row, which places the Under 8s in contention at the top end of the friendly league. They play Tynemouth Under 8s next weekend, with the chance to leap-frog their local rivals in a derby match.
